“The media’s the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that’s power. Because they control the minds of the masses.”
Everything is propaganda. From your nightly news to your favorite shows and movies. All of it is propaganda. History would be hard-pressed to find a better ran propaganda machine than the amerikkkan propaganda machine of the last roughly 30 years. I don’t say this lightly or without a true reflection on history; 29 years ago many people were just waking up to news that South Central had erupted in “violence.” The LA Uprising was a period of six days where amerikkka was forced to witness colonized Africans desperate to be seen. They voiced their trauma and pain and rose up; seeking to strike back against this genocidal amerikkkan War against African and Brown Indigenous People.
“Tell ’em how you feel! Tell ’em what kind of hell you been catching! And let him know that if he’s not ready to clean his house up, if he’s not ready to clean his house up he shouldn’t have a house. It should catch on fire and burn down.”
During the uprising, amerikkkan executive war criminal George HW Bush, declared a state of emergency and sent in over 13000 of amerikkka’s imperialist troops to take control, in what was the largest urban military occupation since 1968 in Washington DC after Dr. King’s assassination. The idea was only the military could get these “thugs” under control; and true to amerikkkan propaganda form, those who have been vicitimized by the violence and terror of amerikka were made out as the aggressors. In true democratic fashion then-candidate Bill Clinton took a hard-line approach at capturing the African vote through attacking Bush for his handling of the LA Uprising and through targeted propaganda such as his Arsenio Hall Show appearance where he played the saxophone and won over the minority and young vote. Clinton played up his “friend to Black and Brown people” card to be elected and used it as a way to escape responsibility for the vicious white supremacist policies and practices that he enacted but was able covered up by way of the amerikkkan propaganda machine. Between “Super Predators” and Congress attacks on gangsta rap, the propaganda war on young Africans vilified our existence even to our elders. At the same time, the amerikkkan propaganda machine began an assimilation campaign to appease Africans and to quell the revolutionary spirit that had begun to stir amongst the masses. In 1996, the CIA hired one of its veteran clandestine officers, Chase Brandon, to work directly with Hollywood studios and production companies to upgrade its image. A series of films and shows depicting respectable Africans as kkkops emerged as there was a call for “law and order.” Those in power know that in order for amerikkka to work, the colonized people must be kept neutralized. This fascist colonial amerikkkan machine all works together, from the politicians to the elite ruling class of kkkapitalist, to ensure the continued subjugation of African and Brown Indigenous Peoples.
U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) lists the tactical goals of psychological warfare (PSYWAR) or psychological operations (PSYOP) as:
Assisting in overcoming an enemy’s will to fight
Sustaining the morale and winning the alliance of friendly groups in countries occupied by the enemy
Influencing the morale and attitudes of people in friendly and neutral countries toward the United States
This is no different than what we are currently witnessing. After decades and decades of assimilationist propaganda, last summer’s uprisings demonstrated a revolutionary spirit that scared amerikkka. Rarely throughout history has amerikkka seen so many people from all national identities come together to speak against the systems of amerikkka and so the propaganda machine was sent into overdrive. Abolitionist rhetoric like “Abolish The Police” was co-opted for “Defund The Police” which easily was pushed as neo-liberal reform campaigns such as electing the mass incarceration ticket of Biden and Harris under the guise of progress, the George Floyd Bill which give even more money to the pigs under the name of a lynched African after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared George Floyd sacrificed his life to make amerikkka better after one pig was convicted. But make no mistake all of this is propaganda, all of this is political theater, one pig was sacrificed to preserve the image of the system.
While all of this political theater and propaganda is taking place, the amerikkan media is ramping up their propaganda as well. The emergence of shows and films heralded as “Black Representation” that consistently portrays only our pain and suffering appears to me to be tools of psychological warfare. Oscar winners Judas and the Black Messiah and Two Distant Strangers are nothing short of modern-day lynching photos. Where Two Distant Strangers displays traumatic image after image (the movie concept is about 100-day time loop) of an African murdered by the pigs, who also refuses to fight back, yet he is seen as brave for continuing to “try to get home to his dog” despite the very real war being waged against him; Judas and the Black Messiah is a reminder to any African who may feel the need to fight for liberation that you will not survive actively resisting the amerikkkan colonial system. But as Chairman Mao tells us “to rebel is justified.”
In every aspect of amerikkkan media, the propaganda is seeking to quell the revolutionary spirit of Africans. This is amerikkka’s MO; anytime Africans become enraged enough to fight they provide concessions and propaganda to appease our resistance. From the political concessions that sound like progress but truly only dig us further into colonization to the outright commodification of our pain and suffering, amerikkka’s propaganda machine is doing exactly what it was intended to do, control the minds of the masses. As we know: everything is propaganda so please be careful what you consume because it is the very goal of this colonial regime to give the appearance of freedom, the appearance of progress. Progress is now being able to watch your people win awards for being murdered on screen, social justice is kkkapitalistic kkkorporations profiting off the pain and misery of the people.
“If you stick a knife in my back nine inches and pull it out six inches, there’s no progress. If you pull it all the way out that’s not progress. Progress is healing the wound that the blow made. And they haven’t even pulled the knife out much less heal the wound. They won’t even admit the knife is there.”
Being included in amerikkka’s propaganda campaigns isn’t progress, progress would be pushing the pigs out of our communities, progress would be free housing, food, healthcare, and education. Stop mistaking pacification for progress, all these crumbs amerikkka throws us; from representation to the rare kkkop that will be thrown away by the system, is not even progress and much less justice. Everything is propaganda, so please be careful what you consume.
